Uniting's Lung Cancer Research Grants

Uniting Against Lung Cancer believes innovative research holds the key to a cure for lung cancer.

Uniting’s commitment to support innovation in lung cancer research provides necessary funding, and encourages the development of new ideas. With more funding, more promising ideas will come to light and more vital research can be performed—making progress in the fight against this deadly disease a reality.

Uniting Against Lung Cancer’s Research Grant Program: Working with our partners, Uniting funds innovative research through individual grants at leading lung cancer research centers across the nation. The grants are selected in an RFP process that includes review and endorsement by the foundation’s Medical Committee, made up of many of the nation’s leading thoracic researchers and physicians. To date, more than $6.1 million and over 60 grants have been made at institutions in 21 states, enabling a number of projects to produce the preliminary results they need to qualify for follow-on funding from government agencies to take them to the next level.  Since 2002, 11 researchers received follow-on funding based on the research funded with Uniting “seed money” for a total of almost $11 Million.

Caine Halter Hope Now Award: The Hope Now Award, was established in 2007 by Chawla Hope Initiatives. The award is intended for the research lab and its leader showing the most progress in lung cancer research in a particular year. The purpose of this award is to provide funding for research and to recognize the demonstrated excellence of research labs seeking to develop novel treatment options for lung cancer survivors.
