“Kites for a Cure” Kicked Off 2010 Hamptons Season Raising Nearly $200,000 To Benefit Uniting Against Lung Cancer
This Memorial Day Weekend, more than 800 people took part in “Kites for a Cure,” a family kite fly benefit on Coopers Beach in Southampton, NY. The event was held on Saturday, May 29th and raised nearly $200,000 for Uniting Against Lung Cancer.
“The fourth annual Kites for a Cure was another huge success with hundreds of families joining in the fight against lung cancer by flying kites on our beautiful beach,” said Mark Epley, Mayor of the Village of Southampton. Mr. Epley served as the Honorary Commodore of the event, having lost his father to lung cancer six years ago.
Rechler Equity Partners, Long Island’s largest owner of commercial real estate, was the event’s primary sponsor this year. Recognized for its community support and hands-on involvement, Rechler Equity continued its 50 year tradition by hosting this cherished Long Island event while establishing a lung cancer research grant to memorialize the company’s co-founder Roger Rechler, who died of lung cancer in 2008.
“We are extremely pleased with this year’s turnout and happy to announce that with Rechler Equity’s sponsorship Kites for a Cure raised more than double its usual funding during the fourth annual kite fly,” said Tess Wachs, the event’s co-chair.
