As Executive Director, Susan Mantel works with the Board of Directors to develop & execute strategies for increasing research into lung cancer and raising awareness of the country’s leading cancer killer. She also helps Uniting Against Lung Cancer collaborate with like-minded organizations across the country to achieve the common goal of finding more effective diagnostic tools, treatments and ultimately, a cure for lung cancer.
Prior to joining the organization, Susan served as a Senior Marketing Manager for Pfizer, Inc., where she executed initiatives to develop and introduce new products and instituted a number of educational and training programs for physicians, as well as Pfizer’s sales force. Previously, she worked in the worldwide health care practice for The Boston Consulting Group.
Susan has been actively involved with not-for-profit organizations for many years. As an independent consultant, board member and volunteer, she has made important contributions for organizations including Action Against Hunger, Mustard Seed Communities, and The International Rescue Committee.
Susan holds an M.B.A. from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.A. from Haverford College.
As Director of Development, Gretchen McGarry works with the Board of Directors to execute the Foundation’s development initiatives. She oversees fundraising activities for Uniting Against Lung Cancer and works to generate contributed support in the form of gifts, grants, bequests and other individual, corporate, and foundation sources to fund innovative research into lung cancer.
Gretchen brings with her over six years of health and human services development experience. Prior to joining the organization, Gretchen served as Development Director at the NY Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, where she was directly responsible for the planning, execution and management of fundraising programs. Before that she worked closely with medical professionals to raise funds at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center and The Skin Cancer Foundation.
Gretchen holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and a B.A. from University of Miami.
Maureen joined Joan’s Legacy as Program/Special Events Coordinator in June 2006 and is now Communications Manager of Uniting Against Lung Cancer. In that role, she oversees the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies for the organization. Maureen manages the portfolio of communications vehicles, including the website and newsletters.
Maureen’s previous experience includes a range of responsibilities in creative services at New Jersey Performing Arts Center, special events with Monmouth Medical Center Foundation, and staff and student oversight in residential facilities at William Paterson and Rowan Universities.
Maureen holds an M.A. in Public Relations and a B.A. in Communication Studies, both from Rowan University.
As Events Manager, Gina Manto works with the Director of Development and members of the Board of Directors to execute the Foundation’s fundraising events. She manages Uniting Against Lung Cancer’s Kites for a Cure events on Long Island, and the Strolling Supper with Blues & News in New York City. She also provides support to partner events throughout the country.
Before joining Uniting Against Lung Cancer, Gina served as Development Writer for AFS-USA, Inc., where she wrote corporation and foundation grants. Prior to that, she spent six years with the March of Dimes, starting out as Special Events Coordinator on the chapter level and ultimately ascending to Special Events Manager within the National Office. Throughout her tenure with the organization, she oversaw a variety of fundraising and awareness events, ranging from grassroots community-based events to high-profile galas in New York City.
Gina holds a B.A. from the College of New Rochelle in Communications.
Marybeth McMenemon joined Uniting Against Lung Cancer in September 2007 as Development and Operations Assistant. In that role, she works closely with the Director of Development and Events Manager on special events and fundraising efforts as well as with the Executive Director on financial management and other administrative responsibilities.
Marybeth holds a B.A. from SUNY Oswego, where she played an active role in fundraising and special events.
